An impressive religious monument from the 19th century, located in the heart of Piraeus, across from the Municipal Theater.
It was constructed between 1879-1883 based on designs by Ioannis Lazarimos (whose signature is also on the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, Saint Nicholas, and other buildings). The church follows a Byzantine architectural style, characterized by a cruciform basilica with a dome and two striking bell towers.
The iconography of the church was completed between 1886-1891. It is one of the largest churches in Piraeus, with a capacity for 1,200 people. In 1934, the first Night High School of the city operated within the church. It became the cathedral church after the destruction of the Holy Trinity Church during the bombings of January 1944.
