Housed in the neoclassical building that once served as the post office in the early 20th century, the Municipal Art Gallery of Piraeus has been welcoming visitors since 2014. The rich collection of this gallery includes 837 paintings by renowned modern Greek artists, such as Nikolaos and Periklis Lytras, Konstantinos Maleas, Konstantinos Romanides, Michail Economou, and Alexandros Christofis, among others. At times, works by contemporary artists are also exhibited.
Within its walls, you'll find the collection of 80 sculptures by G. Kastriotis, wooden and stone sculptures by the folk artist Stamatis Lazarou, the Panos Aravantinos collection, and a donation of personal items from the great actor Manos Katrakis. The gallery showcases miniature models of stage sets, costume designs, theater costumes, photographic material, vintage posters, artistic creations using sea stones, and oil paintings. Special thematic exhibitions are also organized.
