The Laskaridis Foundation hosts permanent exhibitions, such as the one featuring 68 post-Byzantine icons created between the 15th and 19th centuries. It also houses a historical library and organizes interesting periodic exhibitions. Notably, it's worth exploring the Nelson Collection, which includes personal items, dozens of letters, and documents related to the British Admiral Horatio Nelson, and it is the largest such collection outside the United Kingdom.
The impressive neoclassical building on 2nd Merarchias Street opened its doors after renovation in 2014, showcasing the historical library and maritime collection of the Laskaridis Foundation. The building itself is a sight to behold: it is considered an architectural work by Ernst Ziller, was purchased in 1917 by the entrepreneur G. Striggos, was occupied by German forces during the Occupation, and later became an Officers' Club.
